At the Border.

Just the final border to go now!

The photos show the joined together blocks on the ironing board,

Then with the 2 borders added.

Notice how the colours look different in every photo. They are indeed purples not blues as they look in some shots. I am rapt with how it has all come together and the end is in sight! At the moment the quilt measures 7 ' by 7 ' or 84 inches square. The final border will add another 10 or 12 inches as it will be at least twice the width of the first 2 borders. It is to be a dark purple fabric. I didn't have enough left of any of the fabrics so Barnhouse are getting in one of the dark purples I have used for the final one. I will pick that up on Thursday when I have to be in town for a meeting. I have a smile on my face! I like it.

At the moment I think I might get it commercially quilted because of its size. I have never done that before, but I would hate to spoil it . I am going to be keeping this quilt so I guess that might justify the expense.

  1. I don't like it - I LOVE IT!!! to be honest Ali I mentioned before I've always loved the purple/olive combination and this has turned out beautifully - I think your border treatments are perfect - if you ever tire of it yourself I'd always give it a good and loving home ;-)

  2. Oh Ali!! It is so beautiful, it reminds me of the lights in a diamond. Just beautifl.
I know what you mean about a special quilt deserving to be quilted professionally- I have just been admiring Keryn's lovely quilt, done on the longarm. It is fabuous.

  4. It turned out lovely Ali! What boggles my mind most though is the size and how quickly you've made it, while I'm still putt-putting along with my hand pieceing which, after MONTHS of stitching, will only measure 44" square!
The colour combination is stunning, and as Meg said, the whole quilt sparkles...

  7. It's a pretty big quilt, so pushing it through your machine will stretch some muscles! I guess the price you pay for machine quilting depends on how much/how difficult you want the quilting to be.

  8. its fabulous. I now quilt myself the small or not too important ones but those that I really really like or special I get professionally done. And I think this quilt would come into that bracket. Its just superb.
