Yesterday I finished reading my 919 page book.
This morning I finished sewing my selvage quilt.
Can you see the smile on my face? Finished can be a happy word or a sad word or a nothing word. Today I am using the happy version.
Then I tried hanging it on the clothesline.
*********************************
Percy Peacock has finished too. Finished dropping all his long feathers. He is however still sitting up right by the ranch sliders every second day scratching and preening and leaving a variety of small feathers. ( where is he every other day ?) I have a collection of the long feathers and these small ones. Some are just delightful and fluffy. Some are brilliant colours.
* I should add that (if you are a stayer ) the book I finished was worth the effort; you might like it. " Ireland Awakening, " by Edward Rutherfurd.
( the part about the potato famine particularly in the town of Ennis where I have been was very ghastly. The deaths were the greatest in the West country ( County Clare ) - the part of Ireland I liked the best for it's beautiful green countryside.
It was interesting reading the ghastly history of amazing places I had been to last year: Dublin; Galway; Ennis and Dromoland castle.
What a gorgeous quilt...love it! And Percy's feathers too!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt has turned out very well, but I can see what you mean about all the white on one side.....the addition of a thin black strip would certainly fix that. Wow, that's one long book! Finished is good.
ReplyDeleteWow -- Congrats on all those wonderful finishes! Your quilt is beautiful. I've been wanting to read the book about Ireland -- I love Rutherford's London. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for that book! Our wedding reception was in Ennis, at The Old Ground Hotel!
ReplyDeleteI think it was Oliver Cromwell who said of the west of Ireland that there "weren't enough trees to hang a man, not enough water to drown a man and not enough soil to bury a man."
So, beautiful scenery, yes. But tough to eke out a living there before tourism....
Percy has been very generous with his gifts.
ReplyDeleteAre you superstitious?
I remember as a child being told I couldn't bring peacock feathers into the house as it was unlucky!!
Love that new quilt.
Wow your selvedge quilt is awesome!

ReplyDeleteLove your quilt....
ReplyDeleteAdmiring your quilts! Oh you are sooo lucky to have a pet peacock...I've always wanted one, but we already have aviaries with finches and canaries, and a chook house, and my husband says that is more than enough. Like Loulee, I have also been told it is unlucky to have peacock feathers inside the house, but I don't care - I have had one on the wall for years and I don't think my luck is any better or worse because of one feather!
ReplyDeleteYour selvedge quilt is fantastic, love the rainbow of colours, very effective. I'm glad you read my mind and gave the info on the book you finished - love that kind of story, will look it out at the library next time.
ReplyDeleteLove your selvage quilt -- that's amazing!
ReplyDeletegreat selvage quilt! (I really should start saving my selvages ... )
