Fresh Green Peas.

Growing our own veges is satisfying but time consuming. When they are ready, as these yummy green peas are it takes longer to prepare dinner as they require picking and shelling, before quick cooking. Even the silver beet you see beside them takes time as it has too be really carefully washed to be sure there are no bugs. The new potatoes need digging and washing or scrapping but are so, so yummy. We have grown 2 potato varieties this year Heather and Agria. Can't wait till the green beans are ready. They are flowering, but not quite there yet. Mint with the spuds and peas of course!
I'm off to do today's' picking cause even though we are going out to a friends 50th dinner party tonight, the peas need picking and storing in the fridge...don't want them getting to old and tough....babies are best.

I am so jealous of your nice fresh veggies while we are sitting here on a big pile of snow.

there is nothing quite as satisfying as eating your own home grown veggies, makes up for all the battles with weather, insects, the neighbour's cows etc!
A while ago you asked us about the kiwi fruit we buy. I got 2 today, one labelled "Zespri green 4030 new zealand" and the other "K-1 kiwi-uno #4030" Hope that means something to you!

Hi Ladies,
Guess we all have different experiences. I have never had a White Christmas Joyce, and altho I been in snow several times I have only obce been where it was actually snowing on me. Ladies I would share the peas with you if I was closer!
Susi-k Thanks for that info. Yes that is what a NZ kiwfruit sticker should have on it. I was more interested in the tray or box it came out of...that's where the grower # is stamped. ( I don't suppose the box was on display ? )

Hi Ali, thanks for calling by my blog. I have spent some time reading yours! It looks like a lovely life on an orchard. I have never seen kiwifruit flowers. Too hot and dry to have a garden like that here!

I am having trouble leaving comments on most other blogs at the moment.Any idea why anyone?

i think i might have it sorted, it was driving me crazy.... open your blog, and open blogger dashboard in a seperate tab, then sign in on dashboard, leave it open, then go back to your blog and follow your links to start visiting. Since I've been doing this I haven't had a problem.

Thanks Suzi-k that worked for me too. I now realise that that is why sometimes it was okay ( cause I had already just put up a new post and so was signed in ) but if I just popped in to read some blogs it would block me and send me around in circles. So I have missed making comments on some occassions when I wished to .... Sorry folk!

I remember shelling those peas every christmas and hiding the shells all around the house. Nothing like fresh peas and real mint sauce - roll on the 25th

cheers Dale
