Tree Removal.

There has been all sorts going on around here. Last week we had 5 large trees removed ( for safety reasons )- all lifted out over garden or kiwifruit blocks without doing any damage. We had professionals do this lot. Today we had the big Chipper come and munch them up into a huge pile of mulch for us to put around the avocado trees after it rots down some.
This week I am on Jury Duty. That meant an early start yesterday and horrendous traffic to get there in plenty of time. On this occassion I wasn't needed so was back home after about 2 hours. Not needed today or tomorrow but might be on Thursday. It really stuffs up ones planning, but never mind. This is the 3rd time I have been called in the last few years - last time I got on. Hope they share it around a bit more cause the recompense is pitiful - still I would want a thinking sensible jury if it was me on the other end so I suppose one has to do ones public duty. I sat and hand sewed while I waited - some of those twiddling their thumbs commented that they wished they had thought to bring something to do! ( Just like "The Tale of Two Cities" - woman quilts in courtroom! ) Those things are always hurry up and wait!

I did jury service in December of last year for the first time. I have been called up heaps (about 9 times altogether) but have been able to get out of it since I am a single mum. but now the boy is 16 and I can't use that excuse and, like you, thought I should do my duty. Didn't get called on the first one and got challenged on the second. So I haven't yet served on a trial. But I have no doubt I will get called again. You are right, the recompense is pitiful.

I feel the same about Jury service, not enough pay but if we don't assist then what happens to the legal system! Hope you get a nice juicy trial! tracey

My brother has been called 7 times, & has served on 3 juries, in NZ. He said one of the trials was a mockery of justice, & in the end the innocent pled guilty just to end the trial. A Bikie thing.

Sounds like an awesome task getting those trees out without causing any damage to the surrounding area - some contractors are just worth their weight in gold aren't they - what a pain about the jury duty - Neither I or any of my close family have ever been called over here in the UK - always found the concept pretty daunting especially say of it's a lengthy fraud trial where you need stamina and some pretty in depth concentration and understanding or a particularly nasty murder trial - over here the recompense is also a pittance but most employers tend to stand the cost - however it's then tough on self employed people. Not ideal but I suppose the alternative doesn't really bear thinking about. Well done for having the presence of mind to take some hand work

Loved the tree felling pictures = really puts the size of the tree into perspective.
Never had Jury Duty - the only time I was called up I had to be taken off the list because I was married to a policeman! (Must have thought I would be biased)

Thanks for the comment--I can't even imagine what goes through your mind with the threat of hail on your beautiful fruit crop!

I hope the jury duty goes okay. Maybe you'll get a really interesting case.
