Denim and Avocados

Gudrun here are some Avocado photos. The first is a small tree about 4 years old ( has a few fruit set ). Many we have are old and huge and have to have the tops pruned down and hollowed ( vased ) to let sunlight in. ( if the fruit is up too high we can't reach it ! ) The ground below is a carpet of dead leaves ( they like mulch ) and we put all the garden rubbish around them too as mulch. The photo with my hand in shows the size the next crop has got to already.....they are light green and very shiny. ( not many types of tree or plant bear more than one crop at a time ) The new leaves on them are red and copper coloured so make them a pleasant tree for a garden.
Sewing content: The big pile of denim fabric I have partially cutup ready for making circles for my quilt. Note the many shades of BLUE.
The other photo shows some of the 7"squares I have ready to trial for the centre of each block.Lots to do.
Do have a pleasant weekend - I don't fancy that snow some of you are still getting in the NH. ( enlarge photos by clicking on them )

I grew up with avocados in Southern California. It was a small grove, only an acre, and we had some very tall trees. Usually there were a few perfect specimens far beyond reach. After we had picked and sent our few boxes to the packing plant, I would watch those high in the sky fruits daily till they dropped. I even sometimes shared with the rest of the family.

Wow Ali -- those avocados are gorgeous. And I love what you're doing with the denim -- I've been following along 'cause I have lots of old jeans just waiting for a project!

I'm curious to see how your denim quilt will look, I found the instructions years ago for that idea and it has been on my list ever since.

The Avocados look great. I know what you mean about vased- a neighbour's tree gets vased by the council every year, because of overhead power lines.... as we are high, we see the inside of the vase!
Interesting fabrics there.

So glad that things are getting back to normal for you now.
I'm loving the denim quilt. What a fabulous way to recycle those old jeans! I think i'll ask my sons to give me theirs, although they probably won't be in any fit state to make anything with!

The Bean, who is growing a few avocados, will be very interested in this.......You don't look green at all...except, perhaps, for those thumbs of yours!

Everything looks so lush and green there. Your picture had me craving a nice plump avocado.
