Ariving in London then down to Somerset.

Thanks for your Comments.( I am feeling much much better today. )
On our very 1st day in London J walked us across the Thames to visit the Chelsea Physic Garden. It was founded by the Society of Apothecaries in 1673. ( using plants as medicine ) A huge number of the plants were familiar to me and are still found in gardens today. Some of the specimens were struggling compared with how they do in New Zealand. ( Kiwifruit and Avocados ! )Plants from many places in the world were growing here.
It was a fascinating place for me to visit.

They were making compost on a huge scale.

This plant took my eye. In NZ it is a roadside weed we called Shivery grass when we were kids.  There was a cafe on site and we had the most deliciouss lunch there. We had many yummy food experiences and this was the first of them. Later that day we took our first outside ( slightly)   London train ride to an area called Claygate to our first UK BBQ at special friends' place. ( 7 kiwis and 2 UK people there )So we had a pleasant first day.
The next day we ( all 4 )took our second very pleasant train journey down to Somerset to stay with a very very special lady in her lovely home and garden  in the village of Castle Cary. As soon as we were refreshed we were taken to an " Open Garden nearby. " It was the 2nd of many, many fabulous gardens we were lucky enough to visit.
It was a bright sunny day.

These took my eye in the vege and fruit garden. Red currents doing SO well.

Another thing I just had to photograph was this cloche. I have never seen such a fancy one.

Those English sure know how to grow beautiful gardens!

I'm really enjoying your posts about your trip. The gardens look so beautiful -- we always seem to be in the UK at the end of garden season, so we miss a lot of the beauty. Sorry to hear about your hubby's wallet too -- that's awful!

I'm so looking forward to reading of your travels. It sounds like we visited a few of the same places. That is bad news about the wallet. Lucky there wasn't more money. I hope you get over your colds quickly. Mick caught one on the way home. He is now better, but being such a loving fellow he has now shared it with me. I love the butterfly garden. I'll have to remember that next time we are there and have time to kill.

Beautiful garden and the weather so nice. We do have red currants here in Iceland!
